SKATING SPEAKS

New York, NY

Skating Speaks is a nonprofit organization I founded to give autistic children a voice through ice skating. Figure skating has been a part of my life for over a decade and I wanted to extend the freedom and rush it had always given me. My goals are to put together (COVID friendly) events that allow the autistic community to come together to ice skate and enjoy themselves. This group work targets the autistic community as I have many ties in the skating community. Events will most likely be taking place on Long Island and the Skating club of New York in Chelsea Manhattan SkyRink.

Founder, Co-President

I am a third year pre-medical student and I was introduced to the autistic community through Penn State. I resonated with these kids because after a family tragedy, I too found it difficult to communicate and get my feelings across. I grew up competitively figure skating for over a decade and it has always allowed me a feeling of freedom. On the ice I was able to be myself and skate as I felt. I wanted to give these kids the chance to truly express themselves and I firmly believe ice skating is an amazing way to do so.
