MEET THE FOUNDER
Safa Ahmad
Founder, Bright Futures T1D
Safa Ahmad is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Union College in Schenectady, NY. Her academic and professional interests center on medicine, chronic disease advocacy, research, and community health education.
Safa has a strong background in research and clinical experience. She currently conducts independent research at Union College on genetic contributors to metabolic syndrome, with an emphasis on cortisol sensitivity. She has also worked in neuroscience and neuropathology research at Albany Medical College and the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, where she developed skills in scientific communication, data analysis, microscopy, and laboratory methods.
In addition to her research background, Safa has experience in patient care and health education. She has served as a Patient Care Technician at Albany Medical Center and currently volunteers in Interventional Radiology at Ellis Medicine. She is also a Writing Center Tutor, where she helps students understand complex scientific and technical concepts in a clear and accessible way.
Through her work with Bright Futures T1D and her role as Co-Founder and Peer Leader/Advocate of a Type 1 Diabetes advocacy organization, Safa is passionate about expanding Type 1 Diabetes education, mentorship, and awareness. She has experience supporting diabetes education in underserved and global health settings, including giving lectures on Type 1 Diabetes awareness, management, and care to nurses in her home country of Pakistan. Safa brings a compassionate, service-oriented approach to mentorship and hopes to make Type 1 Diabetes education more accessible, practical, and empowering for all.
