Finding mentors is an important part of every students journey. Whether that’s a research mentor who you’re working under, a clinical mentor who can show you the ropes of patient centered care, or an academic mentor who can be there through your intellectual journey, mentorship is crucial, not only in pre-medical studies but also in education as a whole.
So what can you do to find a mentor? Here are some ways I was able to find mentorship during my premedical education:
Join a research lab
Shadow and work alongside physicians
Connect with your professors
Connect with graduate students and teaching assistants
Finding good mentors can be crucial to one’s education, and certainly, down the line, each of us will be able to share the information we have serve as a mentor to future premedical students.
